A Recreation Therapy consultant for Moore Recreation Therapy & Consulting Inc. is an independent contractor that receives 1099’s yearly. They provide expert support to the assigned facility in the program development, assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of recreation therapy individualized services. This role focuses on collaborating and supporting with the facility staff and other team members to design and deliver individualized therapeutic activities that promotes physical, mental, behavioral modification, and emotional well-being for the clients.

We contract with various group homes, hospitals, city parks and recreation, and treatment facilities providing therapeutic recreation consultation services. Our client's include individuals with mental, physical, developmental, sensory, emotional impairments and/or special needs of all ages. We educate our clients and the care staff to focus on the client's abilities, rather than disabilities, adapt activities as needed, and encourage clients to attain their highest level of independence to improve their overall quality of life. Brielle DiStefano is a senior at the University of Southern Mississippi currently working towards a Bachelor of Science degree in Recreation with an emphasis in Therapeutic Recreation. She grew up in Sacramento, California and is a graduate of Natomas Charter School Performing and Fine Arts Academy. She has an interest in Animal Assisted Therapy as well as Music and Dance Therapy and would like to work with kids in the future. Upon completing this internship, she hopes to build practical experience in her area of choice and is looking forward to participating as a member of the team.

Lauren Acosta is a senior at Sacramento State working towards a Bachelor of Science degree in Recreational Therapy along with a minor in Psychology and a certificate in Natural Resources. While at Sacramento State, Lauren has participated in various volunteer opportunities including helping out at wheelchair basketball tournaments, inclusive fitness sessions, leading activities with local high schools with students with disabilities, and more. From this internship experience, Lauren is looking forward to working with other recreation therapists in a variety of settings and getting to know more about different careers. She hopes to learn more about documentation and strengthening practical skills. After this, she hopes to find an enjoyable career and take the NCTRC exam.

Lauren incorporated this planting activity because of the numerous remarkable advantages it offers to our clients. It provides an opportunity for the clients to engage with plants, which effectively diminishes their anxiety, heightens their concentration, and fosters a greater sense of tranquility. Following our client's completion of pot planting, our intern collaborates with them to plant seeds in a pot filled with soil. Our client is entrusted with the responsibility of caring for their plant by watering weekly.

I am a dedicated Recreational Therapist in training, and I am about to complete my BS in Health and Human Services - in Recreation Parks and Tourism Administration at Sacramento State University. Passionate about community support, equal rights, and opportunities, I have extensive experience in community outreach and advocating for inclusivity. Over the years, I have served a multitude of populations including behavioral health, mental health, physical disabilities, and intellectual disabilities among all age groups.
With a wide range of focuses, I have experience in adaptive outdoor recreation and activities, along with organizing several fundraisers for adaptive gear and outdoor trips for individuals with disabilities. Committed to making a positive impact in communities, I strive to create inclusive environments where everyone can thrive. Through this internship I'm working to gain experience and knowledge of facilities serving the Central Valley. .

Painting with Bubbles was a sensory activity that our intern planned and implemented with our clients. This activity provided various benefits such as, sensory stimulation, deep breathing, increase fine motor skills, social interaction, mood regulation, and may more. Clients enjoyed the activity and created a masterpiece!

Cool Whip Easter Eggs activity was a blast! The clients enjoyed mixing colors and dipping eggs into the cool whip. The best part was that all the ingredients were edible. The benefits included to increase fine motor skills, social interaction, holiday orientation, creativity, sensory stimulation, and may more!
